Esther Lederberg

Esther Miriam Zimmer Lederberg (18 dicembre 1922 – Stanford, 11 novembre 2006) microbiologa e pioniera della genetica batterica, ha scoperto il virus batterico λ e il fattore di fertilità batterico F; ha migliorato la replica di piastra e compreso la trasduzione batterica specializzata.

Nonostante le sue scoperte fondamentali nel campo della microbiologia come la resistenza agli antibiotici, ai metalli pesanti, la virulenza, ecc. non ebbe mai un ruolo universitario o una citazione nei libri di testo, attribuendo i suoi risultati al marito, premio Nobel Joshua Lederberg.

Ester Miriam era una devota della musica antica e si divertiva a suonare musica medievale, rinascimentale e barocca su strumenti originali.

Esther Miriam Zimmer Lederberg (18 December 1922 – Stanford, 11 November 2006) microbiologist and pioneer of bacterial genetics, discovered the bacterial virus λ and the bacterial fertility factor F; she has improved plate replication and understood specialized bacterial transduction.

Despite her fundamental discoveries in the field of microbiology such as resistance to antibiotics, heavy metals, virulence, etc. She never had a university position or a citation in textbooks, attributing her achievements to her husband, Nobel Prize winner Joshua Lederberg.

Ester Miriam was a devotee of ancient music and she enjoyed playing medieval, Renaissance and baroque music on original instruments.
