Ruth Wakefield

Ruth Jones Graves Wakefield (June 17, 1903 – January 10, 1977) dietitian, educator, businesswoman, author and chef is best known as the inventor of the Toll House Cookie, the first chocolate chip cookie.

The story goes, in 1930 Ruth, who was the owner of The Toll House Inn, while preparing biscuits for her guests, crumbled into small pieces a semi-sweet Nestlé bar because she had run out of cooking chocolate. She thought that the bar added to the dough would melt during cooking: but it didn’t - luckly!
